Confession of Faith

Chapter 31: Of Synods and Councils

All synods or councils, since the Apostles’ times, whether general or particular, may err; and many have erred. Therefore they are not to be made the rule of faith, or practice; but to be used as a help in both.1

  1. Ephesians 2:20

built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Christ Jesus himself being the cornerstone,

    Acts 17:11

Now these Jews were more noble than those in Thessalonica; they received the word with all eagerness, examining the Scriptures daily to see if these things were so.

    1 Corinthians 2:5

that your faith might not rest in the wisdom of men but in the power of God.

    2 Corinthians 1:24

Not that we lord it over your faith, but we work with you for your joy, for you stand firm in your faith. (ESV)
